How Healthy Are Your Teeth?

Healthy gums should look pink and firm, not red and swollen. To keep gums healthy, practice good oral hygiene. Brush your teeth at least twice a day, floss at least once a day, rinse with an antiseptic mouthwash once or twice a day, see your dentist regularly, and avoid smoking or chewing tobacco. When it comes to your mouth’s health, it’s not all about how straight your teeth are or how white your smile is.

 

Many people forget about their gums. Even if you’re mouth is cavity-free is doesn’t mean you’re mouth is immune to gum disease. Since a majority of the time, it’s usually painless and most of us have no idea that anything is wrong with our gums the disease goes undetected until you need a root canal or filling.

Always, always Brush your teeth after every meal. This really helps remove the food and plaque trapped between your teeth and gums. And as a patient who has a dental instrument stuck in her mouth from a bad root canal job, please floss as much as you can. Flossing your teeth is a great protection against cavities.

Scrub your tongue- I am guilty of not doing this one as much as I should. Our tongue hosts tons of bacteria. Use a toothbrush that has soft bristles and that fits in your mouth comfortably.

Some people consider a battery-powered or electric toothbrush it is your priority. These brushes can help reduce gingivitis and plaque more than manual brushing. Replace your toothbrushes or toothbrush heads every three to four months, or sooner if the bristles start to fray. So How Healthy Are Your Teeth?
